Question from a reader – I have been unable to understand how all of the characters connect and why you are murdered when trying to get onto the airplane after clearing Makarov’s estate. Also, how does all of this connect to the previous Call of Duty Modern Warfare.

There are some plot holes as some things were never explained.
In the first game, a nuclear bomb detonates and kills 30,000 of Shepherd’s troops. In short, he was angry that “the world just fuckin’ watched”, as he said in the second game. So he had to stage a war to rally the American people. He sends Private Allen to go undercover and join Makarov. Shepherd knew Allen’s cover would be blown and that America would be blamed for killing civilians.
Later on, Captain Price doesn’t listen to Shepherd and goes on his own agenda; use an EMP. Now there’s 2 theories as to why Shepherd kills you:
He couldn’t trust Task Force 141 after the stunt Price pulled.
The data you retrieved from the estate might’ve revealed Shepherd’s true intentions.
